Social Skills Group

Our Social Skills group is for children ages 2-8, focusing on fun group activities to work on the following goals:

  • Develop social skills
  • Make friends

  • Improve communications, verbal and nonverbal

Ready Set WRITE!

Led by Leaps and Bounds professional Occupational Therapists

Ready Set WRITE! is a pre-handwriting program for preschoolers who are having difficulty mastering prewriting skills such as:

  • Holding writing utensil
  • Imitating simple lines and shapes
  • Drawing a simple person
  • Directionality concepts such as up and down
  • Finger and hand strength
  • Using a pincer grasp to pick up small objects such as Legos, etc.
  • Completing activities that require use of both hands and fine motor skills.

Help your child get prepared for Kindergarten.  The focus will be on hand strengthening, object manipulation, core body strength, shoulder strength and stability, fine motor coordination, dexterity, and the development of handedness.  Activities will be fun and rewarding and your child will enjoy learning in our playful atmosphere.  Parents will be provided with play based activities they can do at home to enhance their child's progress.

Write ON!

Led by Leaps and Bounds professional Occupational Therapists

Write On! is a group handwriting program for children entering Kindergarten and  first grade that are having difficulty with handwriting and pre-handwriting skills such as:

  • Letter formation
  • Pressing too hard or not hard enough
  • Pencil grasp
  • Endurance
  • Orientation of letters and words
  • Tracing and copying
  • Placement of letters and words on the lines

Write On! is a multi-sensory approach to help your child improve their handwriting and get them ready for the coming school year.  The focus will be on developing the building blocks of handwriting consisting of: core strengthening, hand strengthening, fine motor coordination, balance and posture, in-hand manipulation, visual tracking, pencil grip, letter formation, and sequencing.  This class will consist of group games and activities in a fun and rewarding environment.

Helping Hands

Led by Leaps and Bounds professional Occupational Therapists

Helping Hands is an individualized handwriting program for children entering 1st through 6th grade and have the following difficulties:

  • Complain of fatigue when writing
  • Have messy papers
  • Poor legibility
  • Resists writing tasks
  • Inconsistent size of letter
  • Difficulty with letter and word spacing
  • Problems completing assignments in a timely fashion
  • Have a poor pencil grip

Helping Hands is a 12 week multi sensory intensive occupational therapy service to help your child improve their handwriting.  The sessions are once a week for 45 minutes with the remaining 5-10 minutes to discuss progress with at-home activities.  The first session will evaluate your child's handwriting using the ETCH, which is a standardized test.  The following 4 sessions will focus on strength, balance, and posture for 30 minutes with the last 15 minutes of the session focusing on handwriting activities.  Sessions 6 through 11 will focus on 6 major components that affect your child's handwriting skills.  At each session the occupation therapist will teach the child and parents activities to improve the specific areas the child needs to work on.  In session 12 the ETCH will be administered again to determine improvements.

It is imperative to the program that the child is serious about improving their handwriting.  The child and parents are expected to practice the activities throughout the week and keep a journal of their improvements.  The parents must participate in the home based activities to help make it fun and not just work.

Little Leaps

Led by a Leaps and Bounds Speech-Language Pathologist/Preschool teacher

Developed for children 2 years old with mild to moderate developmental delay.

This parent/tot class will offer fun play based activities that will increase your child's readiness to participate in a traditional classroom setting by working on skills in the following areas:

  • Language development
  • Social skills
  • Fine motor skills
  • Gross motor skills
  • Sensory motor skills

Little Leaps is designed to give your child a head start.  This program is a supplement to private therapy and ECDD classes offered through the schools.  Through this 8-week group session, children will receive four contact hours with a physical therapist, four contact hours with an occupational therapist and twelve contact hours with a speech-language pathologist.  Parents will gain knowledge and the resources to help facilitate their child's development.

Big Bounds

Developed for children 3-4 years old with mild to moderate developmental delay.

  • Engagement with peers
  • Active participation in a group setting

Big Bounds is designed to increase your child's readiness to participate in a traditional classroom setting.  Through this 8-week group session, children will receive four contact hours with a physical therapist, four contact hours with an occupational therapist and sixteen contact hours with a speech-language pathologist.

A screening to assess developmental readiness for this class is required unless your child is a current client of Leaps and Bounds Therapy Services.  Please call for you screening.

Picky Eating, Feeding From a Sensory Perspective

Led by Leaps and Bounds Occupational Therapist

This hands on course addresses feeding from a sensory perspective.  You will learn how to know when your child is ready for different foods, tastes and textures.  We will discuss how to deal with picky eating and how to progress and present different foods.  You will learn various oral exervises and activities to increase your child's readiness for new foods.

Sensory Integration Strategies for the Home Environment

Led by Psychologist, Kim Waters, MS, LLP, Owner of Exceptional Strategies

Children who have sensory processing issues benefit greatly from having a "sensory diet" in the home.  This informative workshop, presented by psychologist Kim Waters, MS, LLP, will discuss developing sensory strategies for your child.  It will provide you with the tools needed to help your child succeed across environments by providing a sensory rich home setting.

Sensory Integration's Impact on Behavior

Do you know a child that has extreme reactions to smells or being touched?  Do you know a child that is a very picky eater or has difficulty with sleeping?  It could be Sensory Processing Dysfunction.  Come to this informative workshop presented by Kim Waters, MS, LLP psychologist, to learn how this disorder can impact behavior in children.  The presentation will focus on how to help read these behaviors and provide strategies to help the child be more successful in all environments.

Gifted and "Quirky" Children

Do you know a bright, inquisitive child that is just a little quirky? Is she intensely emotional> Is he the bright child who covers his ears at any loud noise? Or maybe the gifted writer whose penmanship cannot be read? Is she distracted by sock seams and clothing tags or averse to trying new foods? Is he highly empathetic? If you've answered yes to any of these questions, this eminar is for you. Kim Waters, MS, LLP will discuss sensory processing dysfunction and common emotional and behavioral issues often seen in gifted children.
