Assistive Technology

Leaps and Bounds Therapy now provides Assistive Technology evaluation and consultation services.  Joining our team is Kim Elder, an Occupational therapist that specializes in Assistive Technology.  With input from our physical and speech therapists Kim will evaluate and identify assistive technology devises and services that will assist a child to complete tasks independently.  Evaluations currently focus on the following areas:

  • Augmentative and Alternative Communication (ACC) evaluations will focus on communication methods, strategies, and devices for those who are unable to effectively use speech to express themselves.  Physical cognitive and social needs are also considered.
  • Computer Access evaluations focus on Assistive Technology (hardware and software) needed to use a computer at home or school.  Recommended solutions facilitate physical access, written expression, organizational skills and participation in educational and vocational activities.
  • Aids for Daily Living (ADL) evaluations promote accessibility, safety, function and quality of life for people with disabilities.  This includes assistive technology such as bathroom equipment, personal care items, utensils, and environmental control units.
